Praying For Wisdom

15 August, 2021

Series: Digital Church

Topic: Wisdom

Welcome to today’s live streamed service.

This week’s texts align beautifully around the topic of wisdom, reminding us that Scripture has threads which run through the entirety of the overall narrative tying together passages hundreds of years apart in a way that illustrates God’s consistent faithfulness to his ways down through the generations.

We’ll be focusing on the story of Solomon, who, upon the commencement of his reign over Israel following the death of his father, King David, asks God for wisdom.

This is a request that pleases God – so much so he blesses Solomon not only with wisdom but with a whole host of other things.

But what encouraged Solomon to pray for wisdom in the first place? What does it mean for us to seek wisdom as individuals and as a church?

Well the answer to that second question, or part of it at least, lies in a few different parts of the Bible, including the conclusion of Psalm 111:10, where it states, “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Other Scripture references include 1 Kings 2:10-12, 1 Kings 3:3-14 and Ephesians 5:15-20.
